![]() Bach Flower Essences are very dilute extracts made from plants. Their high dilution means that they are totally non-toxic and can safely be given to small children. Dr Bach produced his flower essences using the sun method and the boiling method. In the sun method, the chosen flowers are floated in a bowl of water in the sun for several hours. The plant material is then removed and the now vitalized water is stored with an equal amount of brandy for preserving properties. In the boiling method, the plant material is boiled for half an hour. After boiling, it is left to go cold, then stored in brandy as with the sun method. The above methods make the Mother Tinctures. Bach stipulated 2 drops of Mother Tincture should then be added to a 1oz bottle of brandy to make a stock bottle. Our stock bottles are only 10ml, but we have worked out the same ratio to make the strength the same. All the essences are hand-made using organic brandy. We feel very strongly that the quality of all flower essences are greatly influenced by the care taken at all stages of their preparation. In the production of the essences it is our aim to honour the inherent healing potential of the flowers to the greatest possible degree. The Shock & Emergencies essence is made slightly differently to the others. Two drops from each of the stock bottles of each of the five essences should be added to a 1oz bottle. This roughly equates to a ratio of 129,600:1 (roughly 130,000:1), which is, interestingly, around the same dilution rate as the Bailey essences. |
